Day 31-Professor Walford
Professor Walford of UCLA duplicated in the 80s what had been proven in the 20s: that "starving" small animals during their life, extended their lifespan somtimes as long as six times the norm. Of course, this brings into contention the term "starvation". How can an animal live six times its normal lifespan on a starvation diet? Well, it can't. Starvation is the wrong word-reduced consumption is more fitting.
His studies and the books he wrote reach many important conclusions; the most important of which is that man is overfed and it is shortening his life. He contends that eating 60% of what you normally consume will add decades to your life expectancy. At the same time you will be more productive and alert.
Most impressive was the Professor had to kill certain animals because they were living "too long". He needed to evaluate they inner cleanliness. Without exception animals on reduced consumption were free of cancers and pollups whereas normal lived animals on regular diets were filled with cancers and pollups.
How true. When you overeat are you sluggish and want to sleep? If your body is always digesting excess amounts of food, when does it have time to expell the poisons you feed it? Well, Dr Walford has proven the obvious, eat less and eat nourishing foods. Those foods that are not acid-forming.
Even Walford has succumbed to the let's not sacrifice crowd. He wrote a cookbook. If what I am experiencing, you can easily survive without the combination of foods, the combination of which thwarts digestion. The real truth is that it is not what you eat, it is what nourishment you absorb from what you eat that counts. To ask the stomach to use its acid with just one PH level to digest a potpourri of foods with needs for differing levels is counterproductive.
