Day 129 High Protein Loses Calcium
According to the Journal of Nutrition 100: 1425-1430, 1970 high protein diet will cause the loss of calcium. On a lower protein diet, young men were in positive calcium balance; they retained 10mg per day increasing their bone strength. On a high-protein diet all subjects were in negative calcium balance and lost an average of 85mg. per day. This latter means that not only all the 1,400 mg.of calcium was lost per day, but another 85mg. was lost. Beware of high-protein diets, as they may cause bone loss.
