Day 152 Election Mania

I have been so busy, I have drifted off my diet and exercise regimen. I spent the day working on the campaign peppering the freeway onramps with signs, writing my blog, calling the precinct captains, visiting rallys, etc. topped off with a Halloween Party at Mark and Amy's. This is a poor excuse, time to reconstitute.

Day 149 Taking Antibiotics

On my second day of taking the medicine, cold symptoms stopped but the cough continued. I feels like coughing isn't strong enough to scratch the itch.

Day 148 The Doctor

Well the Doctor found I had no temperature and my chest was clear. I wasn't so clear earlier in the morning when I spit up a storm. But I think my exercise regimen has given me a clearer set of lungs. Yet, as I sit here, deep breathes are labored and tight. Doctor gave me a prescription for an antibiotic in case this condition lingers for more than two days.

Day 147 Down and Out

Two years ago I went down with pleurisy and pneumonia. The lead up to it was a congestion in the chest I took me two weeks to address the issue(I am so smart).
Fortunately I had family who beat me severely around the head. As it feels like the same lead up, I cut out exercise today and will go to the doctor tomorrow.

Day 143 Insulin Insensitivity

My type of diabetes is not like juvenile diabetes. Juvenile diabetes is a defect in the ability to create insulin. Type II diabetes is some kind of block in the cell structure that inhibits the release of insulin. The causes of this insulin insensitivity are fourfold. 1. inappropriate diet. 2. Obesity. 3. Inactivity. 4. Vitamin and Mineral deficiencies. As I have been working hard to increase that sensitivity I have just done a test. I ate three Milky Way candy bars. I waited for twenty minutes and took a reading. It came up at 131. A total success.

Day 142 Grain

I read somewhere grain is not easily digested and it is not an acceptable food for humans. I have no idea whether or not this is an urban legend but inasmuch as it takes approximately 500,000 years to convert a human system to normally assimilate a new food group, grain is unacceptable as it only has been eaten by humans for about 10,000 years. Of course this legend makes more sense than eating beef. Why eat beef to get your protein when cattle only eat grassses in creating that protein? Yes, the Garden of Eden was a garden of fruits and herbs (starchless vegetables). The rest of the food groups are Johnny-come-latelys.

Day 141 Exercise the Heart

Exercise is the best tonic for heart problems. As fat deposits block arteries, exercise increases the flow to sweep out fatty deposits. Better than that would be to eliminate the foods that create fatty deposits, namely acidic foods.

Day 140 Maximum Pulse Rate

When exercising, your maximum pulse rate should be 220 less your age. As I am 70, my maximum pulse rate exercising should be 150. The treadmills recommend a pulse rate of no more than 135 for 70 year olds; no doubt hedging against a liability. As my daughter suggested, increase the elevation if your want to increase your pulse rate to sweep the arteries.

Day 135 Sick Leave

Well, on Day 131, I arose with severe cold and went right out and walked for 2 1/2 hours on a political campaign. I came home and went to bed for the next four days. I am now up and running but little transpired in the intervening days. I was just too sick to complete the blog. I got sick by sleeping on top of the covers in the buff without knowing that my window was wide open. I must have frozen it off in the middle of the night and have paid the price for several days.

Day 129 High Protein Loses Calcium

According to the Journal of Nutrition 100: 1425-1430, 1970 high protein diet will cause the loss of calcium. On a lower protein diet, young men were in positive calcium balance; they retained 10mg per day increasing their bone strength. On a high-protein diet all subjects were in negative calcium balance and lost an average of 85mg. per day. This latter means that not only all the 1,400 mg.of calcium was lost per day, but another 85mg. was lost. Beware of high-protein diets, as they may cause bone loss.

Day 124 Bone Health

The common misconception is that bones are made of calcium, therefore eat calcium and you will have strong bones. How brain-dead can we be. Cows don't eat calcium. They eat grasses and derive all the elements necessary to build great bones. Milk, meat, cheese and other bone-builders are in reality causing osteoporosis. A diet of fruits and starchless vegetables will in fact build strong bones. Acidic foods, like meat and dairy have a deteriorating effect on bones as well as tissues.

Day 123 70 Years Old

Seventy years ago I was born at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital in Hollywood, CA. Today marks the end of my 4th month of a new regimen. I've lost 36 poungs and 8" off my waist. I am in better condition than at any time in the last 45 years. I spend almost seven days a week in the gym devoting 30 minutes to cardio and 30 minutes to weights.

Today I took a holiday from my regimen and ate meat,eggs,white flour and sugar. My readings for my intake of alkaline foods illustrasts how bad such a diet is for you.
