Day 183 m Six Months Anniversary

Today is the six month anniversary of my new regimen. I had hoped to lose more weight than I have (35 pounds) and reduce my waist farther than I have (8 inches) but overall I couldn't have asked for more. I haven't fallen back to poor dietary habits which was the hallmark of my first 70 years. My diet has produced excellent numbers on my blood and urine tests. I have no prostate problems. My physical condition is improving and my work with weights is starting to increase my definition. My lungs have cleared and their capacity improved substantially. I have many additional goals. Prominent among them is the reduction in calories of my daily consumption, elimination of my belly and strengthening my core.

Day 182 Annual Checkup

Today I visit my doctor for my annual check up. He is unaware of the changes I've made which have been recorded here. Hopefully I will get a clean bill of health. +++++ Well what do you know, the Doctor told me he was glad I quit my meds, my lab numbers were extraordinary, he was traumatized that someone actually followed his advice (he wasn't used to it). He was glad about my losing the weight but encouraged me to keep on going on my stomach and abs. He gave me balancing exercises to follow to rehab my feet and legs. It takes a little relearning when the feelings return.

Day 178 Turkey Day

Turkey Day always poses a risk of overeating. I will memorialize how I handled it. I didn't have seconds but I pigged out on pumpkin nut bread and chips, etc. I discovered sugar free apple cider (Alpine) that really substitutes for a hot drink I have been missing. My weighted alkaline fell right through the floor and i will have make up for this lapse in the next few days.

Day 177 Fasting Anomaly

Yesterday I fasted. I did an energetic workout and pushed myself. Late last night I felt weak and hungry. I had slept well and had energy throughout the day. Yet I felt weak. This morning I awoke at 5 AM with a blood sugar reading of 40, way out control on the low side. No wonder I had been feeling poorly. I awoke at 5 this morning and started stuffing myself to bring my sugar count up. I have a 7-day fast coming up shortly and will have to monitor my physical activity so as to not overdue it. Fasting really calls for a passive environment and relaxed activity.

Day 176 Acid Condition

I've never had an acid condition. Those who do pop a lot of pills. The expert on acid/alkaline foods says there are some natural foods to relieve this condition. The first is fresh lemon juice in 4 ounces of water every 30 minutes until the crisis passes. Cream of Tartar, charcoal(activated carbon) capsules and baking soda can also be consulted.

Day 174 Contagion

An malevolent, opportunistic virus, bacteria or fungus feeds only on a body that provides food for it---a body laden with tissue acid waste products. Simply put these diseases only survive if they attack an acid-laden body. That if that diseased body comes in contact with another acid-ladened body, the disease is spread. On the other hand, if the diseased body comes in contact with an alkalinized body no contagion will spread. Ergo-keep an alkalinized, acid-free body. Eat wisely.

Day 173 Acidic Example-Exercise

Previously I mentioned that exhausting oneself with exercise can lead to an acidic condition. Last night I met an old Pharmacist friend of mine who related his obsession with his conversion to a Pritiken diet and extreme exercise. He ran 5 to 7 miles each morning and did the same after dinner augumented with 1-2 hours of gym work. On weekends he ran 10Ks and marathons. One day at work, he just stopped standing and had to be hospitalized. His doctors called it exhaustion from overdoing it. It was clearly an example of running your body into an acidic condition that finally put him down. To the point of exhaustion go, but no further. Be reasonable.

Day 172 Alkaline through Exercise

If one exercises until exhaustion, it will generate an acid response in one's system. To achieve the best alkaline response, exercise TO exhaustion not past it. The run up to exhaustion oxygenates the blood which alkalines the system best. Be sure to get in shape before trying to exert enough energy to alkalinize the system.

Day 171 Tahini Overload

I have been overeating tahini. I mix it with honey and add organic vanilla to flavor it. I use it to stop cravings and to satisfy my sweet tooth. As the calorie count of today and yesterday illustrates, tahini is blocking my way to losing more weight. It is a valuable source of protein but I don't need protein in the quantities that the tahini provides. I need to cut back.

Day 170 Lightness Revisited

Having fasted yesterday, I felt light and faster. As much as I have already learned, the fact remains that I still overeat. Now I am eating the right foods, but too much of them. I have been hanging around 195 pounds for over two months. It is time to make a move to rid myself of the remants of my belly, I plan to eat less and resume pilates.

Day 169 13 Squared

Not Imperically Oriented? Unfortunately those constantly supporting the lesser of us are not imperically oriented. In other words they are brain-dead when trying to fit the economics mathematically to solve problems. Below I am trying to fit the math to the problems of health. If I am too empircally oriented for you, I apologize. It will eventually take that for you to succeed too.

Day 168 Fast at Peace

A strange thing has happened. For the last few weeks I have been looking forward to my fast days. I reason that with so few varieties of food to eat, decision making has gotten tedious. Fasting allows me to avoid concern on that issue. So tomorrow I shall be at peace. I can feel itin my bones.

Day 167 Undereating "The Rule"

Leaving the table a little hungry should be a rule. We dig our grave with a fork and spoon. A massive study at the turn of the 19th century into the 20th, which found no correlation between diet, exercise and other habits among those who lived past 100. Without exception they didn't eat much. Never overate, We should take heed and lose the need to get that full feeling after every meal.

More evidence that Humans are fruit/vegetable eaters. These factors make it plain as the nose on your face. Meat eaters have claws, Humans don't. Meat eaters have sharp pointed front teeth used to tear. Humans don't. Meat eaters don't have any digestive function in their mouth. Humans do. Meat eaters have no flat molar back teeth to grind food. Humans do.

Day 164 Diesel Oil in a Gas Tank

Lions are not partial to salad. Why do we flood our system with meat? It is like putting diesel oil in the gas tank of your car. No one would do that. Engines are not designed to run on it. However, humans do it. They regularly load their system with meat. Anyone who does that and believes in the USDA's food pyramid only kids themselves.

Day 163 Vegetable Eaters

A man in the wild without tools is more likely to be an animal's dinner, than to eat one himself. He is ideally suited for food gathering, and the structure of the teeth and mouth is designed for vegetable foods that must be chewed well and mixed with the digestive enzymes in the saliva. There are significant differences in the digestive systems between vegetable eaters (Humans) and carnivores. The meat eater has 20 times the amount of hydrocloric acid in his stomach than fruit eaters do. Large amounts of protein need copious amounts of concentrated acid for digestion, while vegetable matter doesn't.

Day 162 Energy

I have been bouncing between high and lower energy patterns for several weeks after a bout of the flu or whatever it was. Today was a fast day and yesterday I had reduced my consumption. Being "lighter" today has made a real diffeence. My energy was much better. My workout more vigorous. The arthritis in my left hand was noticeably better. My lower body was more active and I had more flexibilty. It proved to me that the obsession that races me to take one more bite is the culprit. How I stop it is another matter.

Day 161 Intestinal Tracts

The intestinal tract of a meat eater is only about 4 times the length of his body trunk as measured from his hips to the shoulders. The distance from the hips to the shoulders measures about 4 feet. That makes a meat eaters intestines 12 feet long. This short intestinal tract is best suited for meat, which putrifies rapidly. The intesinal tract of a fruit eater is proportionately longer measuring about 12 times the body trunk length which for a man is about 48 feet. Vegetable matter, because of its fiber content, is slow to digest, requiring the significant increase in intestines for adequate assimilation.

Day 158 Falling Off the Wagon

Keeping the weighted average of the alkalinity of my caloric intake is instructive. Today it fell below 4.0. A terrible performance. I broke so many rules, it readily shows up on the acid/alkalinity scale. This morning we met at breakfast to pick up political signs we peppered all over the freeways and lawns of the San Fernando Valley. But enough with the celebration. The election has just been an excuse for breaking the rules. Back to basics.

Today is election day. Bush or Kerry? Tonight will tell the tale. I will be on the phone all day getting out the vote. So far, Bush is winning. We will see in the morning. Tonight, I went to the Sagebrush Canteen in Calabasas and celebrated which meant water and bad food. So be it.
