Day 92 End of Quarter

Today marks the last day of my very first quarter. This quarter I lost 31 pounds, and lost 7 inches off my waist. My neuropathy is still there, but my legs are definitely working better. My endurence is dramatically improved as I now go 30 minutes straight at an average of 3.5 MPH. Not good for a kid, but great compared to the fact that I couldn't walk up one flight of stairs without losing my breath three months ago. Breathing is deeper. The arthritis in my hands is not significantly better probably because of the salt in my V-8 and in Bragg's Aminos. Tomorrow I start my 7-day quartely fast.

Day 91 7-Day Fast

Tomorrw is the last day of the quarter. On Wednesday I start my quarterly 7-day water fast. I'll summarize my health and condition in the AM. Tonight I just pigged out for no reason at all. I have lost 31 pounds this quarter and 7 inches off my waist.

Day 90 Longevity

As of today, I have outlived my father by 5 years and my maternal grandfather by 3 years. My mother is another thing. She lived to be 92 years old meaning my next target is 22 years away. She was a health kicker from the 1920s. I was reared on "pink salt". During WWII, I was a vegetarian for over two years. It cured me of childhood asthma. Poor eating habits, smoking and drinking saw it return at 33. It lasted until I was 47 when I quit smoking, drinking and coffee on my fast in Spain. This week will see my 3rd. month of a diet restricted to starchless vegetables,fruit and nuts and seeds(with a treat here and there to satisfy my need to cheat).

Day 88 Mankind's Greatest Enemies

Mankind's greatest enemies are ignorance, selfishness, greed and gluttony. All these causes of man's physical and mental woes are within his control. His failure can only be blamed on himself. Discontinue careless and indulgent overeating. Fast regularly to clean out the system.

Day 87 Piggy Out

Last night I shopped at Whole Foods a local store that should be banned. Everything looks so good, you are stampeded into pigging out. I did and paid the price. I gained 3 pounds and added an inch to my waist. I look forward to shredding the pounds when my quarterly one-week fast begins on 9/1. I pigged out again today.

Day 86 38.5" Waist

This AM I arose to a 38.5" waist. I know it will blow up from time to time, but getting it down below 39" is a real event for me. Got to keep it going. A strange blood reading occurred. Last night about 1:00 in the morning I took a reading. I had fasted yesterday and my blood recorded 80. Yet this AM when I awoke and before I ate, my blood recorded 108. I can't account for this. I will continue to investigate the reason.

I ate a lot yesterday. My sugar was up in the AM and didn't really slide very much by the afternoon. We'll see what happens tomorrow after a day of fasting. I had less obsessions about eating today. It is purely mind over body. Fix that in your head.

Day 83 Beauty and Attraction

Have you ever noticed that those who are in really good shape are usually happier, more energenic, more fun to be around than those old stick-in-the-muds? Did you also notice that even though many such people are not feature-by-feature handsome or beautiful are none-the-less more attractive. The whole package seems to knock you out. If you want ot be such a person, you need to clean your system and put it to the test through vigorous exercise. And put a smile on your face and soul.

Day 82 Ageing

Ageing is, for most, a sign of impending death: as most eat that what clogs them up. Ageing manifests itself in pallid wrinkly skin, poor muscle tone and sagging body parts. A diet rich in acidic, mucus-forming foods will prematurely age you. Never exercise and you are on the fast path to early retirement.

Fast often, reduce consumption, eat fruit, starchless vegetables and rationed amounts of seeds and nuts, revel in that continual light feeling. And you will be rewarded with internal and external beauty and the energy to enjoy it.

Day 81 Resistance Training

If you don't breathe hard and exert yourself, during some of your exercise routines your conditioning will take longer and may never get you to your exuberance goal.
Working up a sweat is mandatory and exertion that taxes your breathing is a rule one should follow-assuming no medical risks exist.

Day 80 Why We Overeat

Dr. Ehret said "Life is a tragedy of nutrition". Why you ask. Simple. The more toxins and mucus is accumulated in the body the more we have to eat to stop it from being eliminated. We eat to sleep. We eat when stressed. We never eat because we're hungry, just to stop elimination. A psychological and physical response that can be overcome by cleansing the system and eating the right food. If you don't you continue to poison your system and perpetuated this condition which normally manifests itself by added weight. Added weight just compounds your problems.

Day 79 Blood Pressure

I have been blessed with low blood pressure all my life. My scans belie that fact. To reduce your blood pressure you need to do the following:

Avoid Fatty Foods
Reduce Alcohol Consumption

Day 78 Fast

I pigged out last night and my blood sugar didn't spike as I thought it would this AM. I went to an upscale so-called organic market tonight to get distilled water and tahini. I decided to wander around and see what the American marketing genius had done besides make us one fat nation. The variety and abundance of what we are offered is so appealing that it is no wonder we overeat. The smells, the visuals, the actual feel of eating is overwhelming. Stay out of markets if you can. When you have to, wear blinders. Focus on what you have to buy and ignore everything else. You can do it. I was fasting today and effectively blocked those impulses.

Day 77 Stopping Elimination

Fasting starts an elimination process that rids the body of toxins and mucus. The most elemental way to stop elimination to to start eating and turn the energy used to rid the body of poisons and switch it to digestion.

Day 76 Overeating and Naps

Yesderday I bragged about how I didn't need much sleep and didn't need any naps. Well this morning, I decided to eat a bunch (First 7 meals all at once) and had to take a short 10 minute nap to recover. This instructs us that overeating results in loss of energy as the body expends its energy in digesting rather than body maintenance. Staying a little hungry is the ultimate state of being. Stay busy and that will take care of itself.

Day 75 Endurance Update

Back on June 1,2004 when I started on this journey, my physical endurance and dexterity, flexibility and mobility were that of an 69 3/4 year old man who for a decade had divided his time between TV and a computer. Two decades ago, my only concession to exercise was playing golf on the weekends. Now, I have been going to the gym since April 1 and changed my diet on June 1, my endurance and general physical condition has improved measurably.

I was out of breath walking across the street or up one flight of stairs. I couldn't do a deep knee bend if my life depended on it. I couldn't stand to do a number of activities for any length of time. Disneytland was out of the questions. Now much of those capabilities have returned. The only thing hampering a quicker recovery is the nueropathy in my legs and feet. I sleep extremely soundly and don't need naps anymore with only an avrage of 5 hours of sleep,

Day 74 Reduce Consumption

If you want to live a lot longer than normal, if you want to live better, if you want to live a vibrant life, etc., etc.,then reduce your consumption to 60% of your normal intake, As I have always been running on 150% of the intake I should have been consuming, the percentage I have to shoot for is 40 and regularly less. I should start immediately to reduce my consumption to between 600 to 800 calories per day. I have to start to think food is something to live by and to live for.

Day 73 198 lbs and 39.5"

My weight has not been consistently under two hundred pounds for years. Yesterday afternoon I weighed in at 198 with a 39.5" inch waist. A real breakthrough. I know I'll probably spike up over this amount shortly, but I'm trying to get it down another 20 or so pounds with much of that weight being new muscle.

Day 72 Save Time and Money

Fasting saves time and money. Fasting costs nothing and vegetables and fruit are not expensive in the quantities I plan to eat. Not being stuffed saves time as I need no naps. My concentration is better and I save time. I publish a complete blog on political matters and sometimes generate as much as 5 pages of original text per day with research. I have been religiously going to the gym every day for 4 months . My regimen is serving me well. The only frustration is that my condition has improved to the point I am impatient to revive the feelings in my feet. I feel I could handle activity better.

Day 71 Habitmaker

Today, I fasted. I experienced no obsessions, no cravings without much effort. I went out and smells wafting from nearby restaurants had no
effect on me. Habit is starting to settle in. It takes time but it does happen. I haven't tried to eat fatty hamburgers so I still don't know if my palate would now reject that taste.

Day 70 No-No's

Do not eat or drink soft drinks, cookies, fried foods, cakes, pies, bacon/fatty meats, candy, jellies, sugar, potato chips, ice cream, doughnuts, salt, gravies, alcohol, sausage, alcohol, artificially sweetened cererals and fruit drinks and chocolate. Anything that contains salt or sugar are dangerous. They are sources of thick sludge that accumulates in your cells. These foods are extremely acid forming and cause acidosis, the reason we all die.

Day 69 Leg Therapy

Waste accumulates in your legs. You ache, you cramp, you pause for breathe. You need to internally wash the waste away. Eat right but do leg exercises every day to rid yourself of the toxemia. Most leg exercises can be done at home.

Day 68 Every Day Routines

Day 67 Learning to Walk

My neuropathy is localized below my knees. It manifests itself by numbing all my functions below the knees. I am focused on curing this condition but there are no guarantees my regimen will work. However, I have had to learn to walk again. More precisely accept signals my feet are all of a sudden sending me. Topically, my skin still feels numb, but inner parts of my feet and legs are starting to be felt. Its like I had to be careful not to fall. My balance wasn't there. Now all of a sudden my head is getting feeling from my feet and I am slow on the uptake to automatically respond to the knowledge they impart. Its like I can start to practice open field running after being restricted to walking on the sidewalk. I plan to take it slow but these signs are encouraging.

When walking up and down stairs I have been extremely careful not to fall. Numbness in your feet makes you sometimes fail to pick up your feet which causes you to stumble; not a good stategy for stair climbing. Today I bounded up the stair because of greater control of my feet and greater leg strength. I think if I push it harder, I can improve the feeling in the feet and legs. I have been taking it easy and need to start pushing it.

Day 66 The Palate Revisited

This morning instead of having my tomato juice (really V-8 splashed with Worchester Sauce, and two hot sauces) I had straight tomato juice. Followed shortly there after by a dried fig. My palate didn't kick up, just like I hope it wouldn't. Tonite I didn't try my palate suppression regimen. To be continued.

Day 65 The Palate

Yesterday I said one has to deaden the palate so as not to stimulate one's hunger. I had no idea how to do that. But today it hit me. The food that is raw, is quite often bland. Eating bland food has a deadening effect on the palate. Adding herbs and spices adds flavor but at the same time stimulates the palate. I assume that food scientists designing their product use palate stimulating ingredients to bring their customers back. I have been using Braggs Aminos and Apple Cider vinegar on all my cold slaw and mixed vegetables. They are powerful palate stimulators. I'm going to eliminate then tomorrow and see if my theory holds water.

Day 64 Fast

I face today's fast with a trick I forgot but Dr. Cott reminded me of. When you are on a fast, your hunger abates because your palate is not stimulated when you eat to anticipate more food. My goal is to keep that palate dead and unstimulated.

Day 63 Rest Day

I missed my exercise today waiting for repairmen for two appliances. I ate too much and decided to pull out one of my favorites tonight, Dr. Alan Cott, author of Fasting:The Ultimate Diet. Tomorrow is a fast day so I need a primer. he lists many benefits of fasting but these catch my eye: To sharpen the senses, to gain control of oneself, to look and feel younger. A fast helps a person lose weight who has let calories get the upper hand in his life.

Day 62 Starting Anew

This Month the emphasis will be on curing the obsession, reducing weight and increasing endurance. Exercise is a good cure for the obsession as is continuously reading health books. Increasing endurance should help in weight reduction as will an increased fasting regimen.
