Day 215 First Calendar Year-End

Well we made it to 1/1/05. Our New Years resolutions are to more closely take our own advice. Eat less calories, eat the right food, eat as few foods at one sitting as possible. eat only when hungry not when obsessed. Watch out for combining and make a chart that will be easy to follow. Start new business project. Don't waste time,

Day 214 Candida

Candida albicans is the term for a group of toxic, yeast-like organisms that can inhabit the mouth, throat and genital/urinary tract. Natural events and substances normally control and balance of this population. But if allowed to get imbalanced it can create constipation, colitis, gas, distention and heartburn(and a bunch of other problems. To solve the associated problems eat sugar-free,periodically fast and stay away from acidic foods.

Day 213 Seven Food Groups

For me there are seven food groups. They are in no particular order:

Proteins Fats Saturated Fats Starchless Vegetables
Sugars and Sweets Starches Fruits

Fruits are the most important food group. The fruit group is further divided into the following categories:

Acid Fruits Sub-Acid Fruits Sweet Fruits Melon Fruits

One's knowledge of the alkaline/acid characteristic and the combining rules of these groups is important to feeling well, maintain health and living a long and prosperous life.

Day 212 Still Sick

I still have chills and sniffles from Saturday. I should not be getting colds if my regimen had not been compromised. I've laid off exercising to recover quicker but I am aching to get back to my routine. I haven't fasted for two weeks and never got a full 7-day fast on December 1st. I will attempt to restart after the First Tuesday in January right after the SC-Oklahoma game. Two raw tomatoes for lunch fulfilled the mono diet requirement and was quite filling as well.

Day 211 The Cook Book

I bought a cookbook for my daughter for Christmas. Tonight she decided to cook some fancy dinner so I broke my regimen and had a piece of filet mignon. This won't be a regular occurrence. I noticed I missed my cold slaw vegetable fare and although the filet was specatular, I could have done without it.

Day 210 Sick Again

I got sick again from chills. It started on Saturday night at Christmas dinner. The Sanzo's left the door open and I got a chill. It affected my ankles and feet. They were unusually cold and I didn't get them wrapped up but just toughed it out. Today the sniffles and the feet still feel cold. Since I have not had any feeling in my feet for so long, I wonder what is going on. I will follow up. My feet are obviously recouperating and sending signals to my brain to give this lunkhead a cold.

Day 207 Eat Happy

There is no use to change your diet unless you're happy and the food you eat makes you happy. I've found that raw vegetables are really delicious and the lightness they leave me with keeps me in a constant state of happiness. I don't like many vegetables cooked so everything is working out well. If you suffer eating what you do, change it

Day 206 Fiber

Fiber (cellulose) is another type of carbohydrate, but an indigestable one. It helps digestion by brushing the intestines and food along its path. It comes from the skins of fruit, stalks of vegetables and the hulks of seeds and grain. Cows and horses digest it, but humans can't. It is roughage that moves the food through the intestines an action called peristalsis.

Day 205 Sugar and Starch

Eating sugar with starch creates a problem. The sugar sends a signal to the stomach to block the enzyme that digests starch. Therefore starch is not digested successfully. But the stomach attacks the starch and delays the digestion of sugar causing fermentation.

Day 204 Protein and Sugar

Proteins take time to digest. If sugar is combined, it ferments because it has to wait for the protein to be digested first. Sugar in general has an inhibiting effect on gastric juices which tells us why eating sweets before a meal spoils the appetite.

Day 203 Acid and Protein

Acid foods such as some fruits do not increase digestive acids. In fact, they short-circuit them by sending muixed signals to the stomach when combined in a meal. Fruit acids do not activate pepsin which is a must in the digestion of proteins. In fact, it inhibits such activation.

.Day 202 Protein Foods

Protein foods include nuts, seeds, flesh foods(beef, chicken, pork, fish)eggs, cheese, milk. But more importantly every food has protein; all required it for cell growth. Generally, man is over protein-fed. Cattle eat grass not protein heavy foods. Why man does is questionable.

Day 201 Starch and Fruit

The acid in fruit inhibit the digestion of starch. One or two tablespoons of vinegar has enough acetic acid to suspend salivary digestion completely. There is evidence that fruit acids are strong enough to destroy ptyalin (enzyme that digests protein). Forget drinking your orange juice with your toast or pancakes.

Day 200 Starch and Protein

When a starchy food and a protein food are ingested together, the enzymes that digest protein overtakes the one that digests starch and slows it down to the point that the starch is only semi-digested and clogs up the works. Avoid eating starches and proteins together: like the cheese and grapes I just ate.

Day 199 Confused Digestion

As it turns out, certain foods trigger the particular stomach acid it needs to digest that type of food. When many different categories of food are ingested, stomach acid production gets confused. Thus the recommendation for eating one food at a time. And the need to understand combining foods. The juices necessary to digest citrus are different from thos e to digest proteins such as meat. Eggs and orange juice are part of the American breakfast, but they are not good stomach companions.

Day 198 Meat and Potatoes

The biggest tragedy you can visit on your digestion is a cheeseburger. Meat and cheese are heavy protein and the bun starch; They take many hours to digest and send signals to your system that it is laboring digesting these foods. Of the flesh foods, fish is the easiest to digest because it is low in protein and fat. Meat is the most difficult to digest and takes over three hours to complete the process and saps your strength in the process. Meat and Potatoes are the worst combination.

Day 197 Starchy Vegetables

Potatoes and squashes are the starchiest of vegetables and take two hours to digest. I avoid starchy vegetables on this regimen. If starchy vegetables have to be eaten, cook them slightly to cut down the starch and to add water. Carrots and beets are more fibrous than starchy. Starchy and fibrous vegetables take longer to digest than leafy greems.

Day 196 Salad Dressing

Salad dressing besides being high in fat and loaded with calories coat leafy greens and make them harder to digest. Try eating salads without dressing. You will be shocked to learn you like the taste of lettuce, tomato, etc. Oil and lemon/vinegar are the easiest to digest. Dairy and nut-based dressings the hardest to digest.

Day 195 Fruits and Digestion

Fruits are the third most easily digested food after liquids and soups. They are the closest food to water. Water content can be as high as 90%. Bananas, however, contain no water, just pulp. They are a starchy fruit as fruits go. As most fruits are just water and soft fiber, no heavty protein or starch digesting enzymes or strong acids are required. Exceptions are bananas, coconuts and avocados that are high in fat, protein and or/carbs which take longer to digest. Fruit lasts one hour digesting in the stomach whereas dried fruits take longer because they lack water content.

Day 189 Food Combining

Day 188 Undereating

Undereating is the basic rule. If a lion can live on one meal a day, why not humans. Studies have found every type of lifestyle can survive past 100. Except one particular universal trait is observed; they all eat minimun amounts of food. "In general, since the invention of cookery, mankind eats twice as much as nature requires"- Ben Franklin

Day 186 Fainting

Having never fainted in my life, I think I experienced a partial one today. When I got back from the gym today I was shocked when I started to faint. I lost control; of my balance. I stumbled into the bedroom and laid down for about ten minutes. I immediately suspected low blood sugar so I checked my blood sugar. It came in at an acceptable 101. I then assumed what had happened was my workout was too strenuous. I had really pushed myself today on the treadmill alternating between walking at 4 MPH and a 15 degree incline I ran up 326 calories burned in 30 minutes. Normally, I have been doing 225 or so. As I was on a fast, I immediately ate something to break what problems the fast might be triggering. After eating, my condition stabilized. Day 185 Balance

Dr. Shore mentioned that a good way to get diabetic feet to work again was to constantly try balancing on one foot. I tried but couldn't do it. Apparently there are a number of nerves that send signals to your brain that need reactivation if you are to beat the neuopathy. Trying to balance yourself will give you an assist.

Day 184 Injury to Back

This morning I started my quarterly 7-day fast. But before I got I out of bed, I experienced a serious pain in my lower back. It was extremely painful when I arched my back. I went to a Chiropractor and found that my hips were misaligned, and probably hurt myself the night before lifting a heavy box into my car. I pigged out late last night and recorded a low blood sugar count this AM only because I took 4 meds before retiring.
